The Big Plane

Photography, Plane Spotting

It’s currently 8AM. That’s kinda early for me, which only means one thing. Off to the airport.

Today’s Plan

So I’m not flying to today. Very unfortunate I know. But, I am going to see a plane. The goal is to photograph an A380, the largest passenger jet. The thing is huge, and I want pics of it.

The plan is to get to the top of parking Garage 2, before it pushes back at 10:33AM. I’m going to use my Sony α7II, with a 300mm Tamron lens. That focal length should be fine. Spotters Guide recommends a 250mm lens for the A380 from that spot.

With all that in mind, let’s go.

The Airport

Pulling into the parking garage, I got the camera set up. Then, I waited. Traffic was way better than I was expected, so I had a while to wait. Luckily, there were some plane to take pictures of. Like a 33 year old UPS MD11.

After a small delay, the A380 started moving. And… It went to a different runway than I was expecting… Great. Luckily, I could still see it, and still get some shots.

Yeah, it’s a big plane.

Plane spotting is a lot of fun, and I got plenty of good shots. The camera did crash on me a couple times. I still think it’s a cold weather thing, I’ll test that more when I get the USB-C adapter I talked about in my last post in.
