About a week ago, apple released the iOS 18.1 developer beta. This added some of the Apple Intelligence features demoed at WWDC. The moment the beta dropped, I jumped on it… I’m back on iOS 17 now.
Siri, Do A Backflip
The beta didn’t bring that many features (other than all the other iOS 18 additions). Siri got the new speech recognition system, the new animation, and that was about it. Yeah you could type to her, and have iOS make a movie out of your photos, but that was about it.
Yeah it’s only the first beta, more will come down the line. But in the meantime, I decided to roll back to iOS 17.
Bad Tutorials
Rolling back was harder than it should have been. A lot of the articles I found on how to put my phone into DFU mode, were just wrong. They would give button press timings that were half of what they should have been, and just skip over the last step.
After a ton of searching, I found this article from 9to5Mac that had the right timings. And worked first try.
Thankfully I still had an iOS 17 backup in iCloud. So I was able to get back up and running pretty quick.
