Thinking About Microblogging

Thoughts

Back in May of last year, I nuked my Mastodon account. I made a couple of posts with my thoughts, link here and here. But, I’ve been thinking about hopping back in. My only issue is, where?

Options & Ramblings

The only two platform I’m considering are Mastodon, and Bluesky. Both have things I like, and both have things I don’t.

Mastodon is where I started, and had fun from 2019 - 2024. I like that it has a lot of techie users, and some really good third party clients. But the whole Threads drama, oh man. I did open an account on a server that doesn’t block Threads (as there are users I actually want to follow on there), but that flame war does put me off a bit.

Bluesky on the other hand, I don’t know. It doesn’t have the federation issues, has user made subscribe-able mute/block lists, and some more neat features. But it just feels, I don’t know. Maybe is the lack of other clients, or the user base, or something else.

Neither feels, right. Micro blogging platforms just feel less, attached to reality. Sure both have methods to tone down the loud accounts (the must list feature is nice), so posts reacting to a reaction of an out of context (possibly edited / fake) clip of something, disappear. But, I don’t know.

I’ll think about it for a bit, I might go with Bluesky, or Mastodon (what server, idk), or neither. I don’t know.

All I know is right now is, I have a flight later today, and I need to get to bed.
