New York

I like photography. But so does my old man. So, as a father’s day gift, myself and an another family member pitched in for something pretty cool.

A Store With Letters

Basically everything we’ve bought for photography has been from B&H. They are the go to for anything photography. Good prices, massive selection, and living near-ish their distribution center, gives me free next day delivery. But, I’ve always wanted to go to their only store. The super store.

So, that’s what we got. Two round trip Acela tickets from DC, to New York City. We’re hitting B&H.

A Train to a Train

Driving in DC is, hell. My dad doesn’t think so, he’ll drive three days to Texas to avoid a plane, I’ll just take the plane. But, even he has his DC limits, so we’re taking the Metro.

05:30ish at the Metro

From there, we hopped on a red line train to Union Station. And made a break for our train. Just making it in time.

I know people love to shit on Amtrak, but the Acela is really nice. Big comfy seats, tons of legroom, and better food than an airline (not much better, but still better).

I didn’t take any pics on the train, as I was busy working on a project. That project was bring back the old Is Metro On Fire website. I have a post on that, and you can find the new site at IsMetroBurning.com.

Three hours later, we were pulling into New York City.

NYC

Fist thing we did, was hit B&H. Safe to say, it’s pretty fantastic. Think of it like a MicroCenter, but for cameras. Unfortunately, the lens my dada wanted to get, wasn’t out yet. Also unfortunately, I totally forgot to take any photos inside. So here’s one from their website.

The used gear counter

After I picked up what I wanted, we headed back outside.

With a few hours to kill, we started think of other things to see. And there was something I felt that we needed to go to.

Braving The Subway

In order to get there, we had to take the Subway.

I can now say that I know what canned food feels like. The DC Metro train are so much better (to be fair, Metro is a newer system). At least the Subway only charges a flat fair.

The stop we got off at, dumped us in one of the coolest looking malls I’ve ever seen.

After looking around for a sign that told us where to go, we popped outside.

For those that don’t know. This is the 9/11 memorial. This is the north tower pool, the south tower pool was drained for maintenance.

Words can not describe the powerful feelings that being here brought. Well, I guess four do. We will never forget.

On a, less depressing note. Here’s a cool looking pic of the One World Trade Center disappearing into to thick fog.

Heading back to the subway, and feeing a little more patriotic, we thought about where to eat.

The Empire State Building

After some shake shack, we decided to hit the Empire State Building. It was only two blocks away, and few still had time to kill.

After paying the fee, we headed on up.

I now know what it's like to be inside a cloud, wet

Our tickets also let us go all the way up, to floor 102.

With that done, we headed back to the train station. It was about time to catch our train to DC. Safe to say, This trip was pretty fantastic.

So, what did I pick up at B&H. A beefy gimbal head for my tripod.
